On February 14, we celebrate three important feasts: the Assumption of St. Cyril Slavic Bulgarian, the feast of St. Trifon Zarezan (old style), celebrated as the Day of the vine grower, and St. Valentine. The Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences traditionally celebrates this day organizing Balkan Book Fair. We give away our old printed editions (one publication per person) and offer new editions at reduced price.
The third edition of the traditional Balkan Book Fair will be held on February 14 (Friday) from 15h00 to 17h00 in the main building of the Institute of Balkan Studies, located on Moskovska Street No. 45.

On January 30 and 31, 2020, Consortium of the National Interdisciplinary Research E-Infrastructure for Resources and Technologies for the Bulgarian Language and Cultural Heritage, integrated within the European Infrastructures CLARIN-ERIC and DARIAH (CLADA-BG), organized a meeting, which took place at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The aim of the meeting was to present the results of the implementation of Stage 1, as well as to plan activities for the next Stage 2.

The topic of his presentation is 'Christian asceticism without borders. Evagrius Ponticus and his influence on the Christian world'.
The event will be held on January 21, 2020 (Tuesday) at 17h00 at the Institute of Balkan Studies located on Moskovska Street No. 45.
This lecture is organized under the project 'LABedia: Encyclopedia of Late Antiquity in the Balkans', funded by the National Science Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science.
On December 13, 2019 during the 47th edition of the Sofia International Book Fair the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences oragnized presentation of the collective monograph 'Thessaloniki and the Bulgarians: history, memory, present' (compilers and editors: Yura Konstantinova, Nadia Danova and Yordan Zhelev, publisher: Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology–BAS, 2019).
The monograph was officially presented by the Director of the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology Prof. Roumiana Preshlenova, by the reviewer Assoc. Prof. Dobrinka Parusheva, as well as by the project manager Assoc. Prof. Yura Konstantinova.
The event was met with great media interest and was attended by more than 100 people, including representatives of the academic community, descendants of expatriate families and readers, tempted by the past and present of this Aegean seaside city.

On November 11, 2019 in Slaveikov Hall at the French Institute in Bulgaria it was organized a Round table "Romani people in the Ottoman Balkans and in contemporary Bulgaria. French-Bulgarian cooperation in the field of history and sociolinguistics". Organizer of this scholarly event was the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Embassy of France in Bulgaria and the French Institute in Bulgaria.
On November 13, 2019 (Wednesday) at the Institute of Balkan Studies located on Moskovska Street No. 45 Nikolay Sharankov will present a lecture 'Conflicts and Interactions between Paganism and Christianity in the 4th century'. The event is organized under the project LABedia: Late Antique Balkans Encyclopedia and it is open to the public.
