Presenting Croatian poets Sanja Lovrenčić and Maja Ručević with the participation of the poet Ivan Herceg

On May 9, 2023 at 18h30, the Croatian poets Sanja Lovrenčić and Maja Ručević will be presented at the Literary Club of the Sofia City Library with the participation of the poet Ivan Herceg, who is a guest of the House of Literature and Translation in May. Bulgarian poets will also participate in the event, and two of them - Petar Chuhov and Ivan Hristov - will have their own musical performances.

Sanja Lovrenčić and Maja Ručević are guests of the Conversations of Literature and the Peninsula project of the Institute of Balkan Studies and Prof. Alexander Fol Centre of Tracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the beginning of May 2023. Their visit and events are carried out with the assistance of the European literary network Traduki, IBSCT-BAS, DA Poetry Publishing House and the Sofia City Library.

After their presentation in the Sofia City Library on May 9, 2023 on May 10, 2023 at 16h30, the Croatian poets will be guests of the students and teachers of the Serbian and Croatian language and literature major at the Faculty of Slavic Philology of Sofia University.

Sanja Lovrenčić (1961) graduated in Art and Indology at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Zagreb and Art History at the University of Belgrade. She began to publish her poetry and translations from French and English while still a student. Her first collection of poems "Insula dulcamara" was published in 1987. Since then, she has published 9 collections of poems, and her poetry has been included in a number of anthologies in Croatia and abroad. For the book The River Must Love the Flood, she was awarded the Cyclops Award (2007). Her collection of poems "Strikhi za heroine" is included in the long list of nominations for the Kamov Prize in 2021 and in the short list for the Kovacic Prize. For the book "I am writing to you from a distant land" he received the "Tea Benčić Rimai" award in 2021.

Sanja Lovrenčić also writes novels, short stories, documentary prose. For her novel "In Ivan's Footsteps" she was awarded the Jalski Prize in 2007. Among her critically acclaimed books are the novels "Ardura" (2012) and "Cabinet for Sentimental Trivial Literature" (2018). In the 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium, she actively collaborated with the Croatian National Radio, which staged a number of her dramatic texts, some of which were also presented in German, Hungarian, Slovak and Estonian. She publishes fiction in English, French and German.

Maja Ručević was born in 1983 in Zagreb, where she graduated in French language and literature and Croatian language and literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb. She works as a journalist and translator from French and English. Member of the Society of Croatian Translators of Fiction. She writes poetry and prose. In 2016, her first novel "Je suis Ednruk" was published, nominated for the "Janko Polich Kamov", "T-Portal" and "Fritz" awards. In 2022, her collection of poems "Tomorrow We'll Make Falling Angels" will be published in the "Poetry" series of the Croatian Society of Writers. She is the winner of several awards for poetry (Ratkovich evenings of poetry, 2008 and 2009, Entrance, 2022). Her poetry and prose have been published in a number of magazines and online portals in Croatia and abroad. He is currently working on a new novel.
