Abstract: In 2010 the Franco-Egyptian mission of excavations of the Persian fortress at the site of Tell el-Herr in Sinai, Northeastern Egypt, cames across to unusual architectural structure called by the discoverers "hypogeum". But what was the purpose and the origin of this building? The researchers themselves are having doubts about its interpretation. Our discussion also points out that the building is not typical for the Egyptian architecture but rather resembles the Thracian tumulus buildings and poses the question: Is it possible that the structure was built by a Thracian warrior? This is why we present an architectural parallel with the Thracian cult buildings in order to throw light upon the theme and eventually propose new hypotheses. All this will be presented in the Discussion club.
The Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is pleased to invite you to the lecture of Assist. Prof. Dessislava Nesheva, PhD (Medical University - Sofia) The Genetic Code of History.
As science developed, genetics became one of the approaches that provide answers to many questions and mysteries in both history and archaeology. It gave an opportunity to discover the missing link in human evolution and in the origin of modern humans. Where there is a lack of written sources and material evidence, the bones "speak" through the methods of genetic analysis. How has human evolution proceeded? Who are our ancestors? What is the origin of Bulgarians? What is their path in history? Thanks to the joint research of historians, archaeologists, anthropologists and geneticists, we will be able to answer those questions.
