The book Impact et réception de la culture française dans les Balkans (XIXe – XXe siècles) / French culture in the Balkans (XIX – XX centuries) – interrelationships and reception has been published. The collective volume is edited by Prof. D.Sc. Raia Zaimova and is the result of the international interdisciplinary conference of the same name, held in Sofia on October 6 and 7, 2022.

The publication is realized with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of France in the Republic of Bulgaria and the French Institute in Bulgaria.

The collective volume "The Balkan Cultures: Dialogue, Transfer, Metamorphoses" brings together authors who work in various scholarly fields - history, theory and history of literature, theater and cinema. The 15 studies included in the book are placed in a wide chronological range from the Middle Ages to the present day. They are dedicated to significant issues related to the dialogue between individual cultures in the Balkans and in European context. Various perspectives have been proposed both to the transfer of cultural models and to the metamorphoses in their perception, assimilation and functioning. The research reveals unknown or understudied sides of cultural dynamics in the region and creates a mosaic image of the diverse Balkans.

The Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT-BAS) is pleased to invite you to the public lecture of Assist. Prof. Margarita Dobreva, PhD (IBSCT-BAS) The resettlement of Bulgarians in the Crimea in 1861-1862.

On December 5, 2023 (Tuesday) at 17:00 in the Aula Magna of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" Prof. Lora Taseva, PhD (IBSCT-BAS) will deliver a lecture "The translator as a creator of language: A look at the Constantine of Preslav's Uchitel'noe evangelie (Didactic Gospel)". The event is part of the Humboldt Lectures dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung.

The 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Student Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will also be celebrated.

On the 27th of November 2023 the book of prof. Yura Konstantinova “Bulgaria and Greece in a Labyrinth of Monologues” (Sofia: IBCT-BAS, 2022) was presented in Athens on the initiative of the Ivan Seliminski Cultural Centre - Greek-Bulgarian Association for Culture and with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Hellenic Commission for the Study of Southeastern Europe and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The presentation was attended by representatives of several Greek academic institutions, diplomats, members of the Bulgarian community in Athens, prominent Greek public figures, students and pupils of several Bulgarian schools in Greece.

The "Unknown Balkans" Discussion Club is organized under the Project “Creation and development of “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence” and the project 101061564 — K-TRIO — HORIZON-MSCA-2022-CITIZENS-01, European Commission Funding programme under Horizon Europe 's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.

On November 22, 2023, scholars from the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Tracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT-BAS) visited the Institute of Balkan Studies at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA). The meeting was held within the framework of the inter-academic cooperation of SASA and BAS under the project "Serbian-Bulgarian relations and the great powers in the 19th and 20th centuries". The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariyana Stamova and Assist. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dobrev from the IBSCT-BAS, as well as Dragan Bogetić - Chairman of the Balkanology Council at SASA, Dr. Dragan Bakić, Dr. Dušan Fundić and Dr. Bogdan Živković from the Institute of Balkan Studies at SASA. Scholarly research on the project, as well as past and future cooperation between the two institutions were discussed during the meeting.

On December 5, 2023 (Tuesday) at 16h00, the film Uprooting /documentary, 2017, directed by Kostadin Bonev/ will be screened at the IBSCT-BAS. It is dedicated to the complex fate of the Armenian people at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of of the 20th century. After the screening at 17h30, there will be a discussion with the director.

The event is part of the seminar Documentary Cinema and History: Paradoxes of an Inevitable Cooperation, which is realized under the project Conversations on Literature and the Peninsula, led by Assoc. Prof. Lyudmila Mindova, PhD.

On November 8, 9 and 10, 2023 in the "Acad. Ivan Evstratiev Geshov" Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences the international conference "The Church and Otherness" was held. The event was organized by the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Tracology "Prof. Alexander Fol" at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT-BAS). The conference was funded by the Bulgarian National Scientific Fund, contract No. КП-06-МНФ/ 25 dated 08.08.2023. Partner of the event was the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria.

The conference was opened by the deputy director of the IBSCT-BAS Assoc. Kalin Stoev. Among the participants were established scholars from different academic institutions in Bulgaria and abroad, including Prof. Momchil Metodiev, Prof. Georgeta Nazarska, Prof. Sorin Paliga, Prof. Rafal Latka, Prof. Vlasis Vlasidis, Assoc. Prof. Zlatomyra Gerdzhikova, Assoc. Prof. Irina Ognyanova, Dr. Ilaria Pagani, Dr. Miguel Gales and others.

More than 50 scholars affiliated with various scientific institutes, universities and museums from 14 countries participated in the conference in person and online. The scholarly forum became a platform where established scholars in the Humanities, young researchers, doctoral students and postdoctoral students met and discussed the issuesof otherness through the eclesiastical perspective.

On November 2 and 3, 2023, a round table was held in Regional History Museum - Sofia in memory of Sanya Velkova-Kozhuharova, PhD on the topic: "History and culture of the Balkans: Foreign Influences, Contextual Adaptation, Hybrid Phenomena", organized by the Department "Cultural History of the Balkans" under the project "Conversations about literature and the peninsula" led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lyudmila Mindova.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Kiril Topalov and Prof. Dr. Raya Zaimova, and among the participants were prominent scientists from various academic institutions from the country and abroad: Prof. Raymond Detrez, Prof. Dr. Nikolay Chernokozhev, Prof. Dr. Kalin Mihailov, Prof. Dr. Rumyana Stancheva, Prof. Dr. Georgeta Nazarska, Assoc.
