Poster Convegno 140ITBGOn September 27, 2019 at 9h00 at the Grand Hotel Sofia /Gen. Gurko Street No.1/ an international forum will be held to mark the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and Bulgaria. The event is organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Sofia and the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT – BAS).

The forum is organized under the research project 'Exchange of Economic, Political and Cultural Models and Ideas between the Balkans and Italy (18th-20th c.)', implemented by the IBSCT – BAS and the Department of Political Science at Roma Tre University.

плакатFrom 3rd to 5th October 2019 an International scholarly conference “Late Antique Christianity in Southeastern Europe” will be held in Yambol. 56 scholars from 11 countries will attend the event. The conference is organized under the project "LABedia: Encyclopedia of the Late Antiquity of the Balkans, 4th Century", funded by the Scientific Research Fund and organized by the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in partnership with the Regional History Museum - Yambol.

Baner2 220x180 2The Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' – BAS organizes an academic conference with international participation 'The City in the Balkans: Spaces, Faces, Memory', to be held in Sofia in the period 2-4 October 2019.

The official opening of the event is on October 2, 2019 (Wednesday) at 13:00 in the Grand Hall 'Prof. Marin Drinov', BAS, located on 15 November Street No. 1, Sofia.

More than 60 scholars from Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Turkey and Croatia will participate in the conference.

69397510 2846584415420169 4033789647535472640 oThe 12th International Balkan Congress, the highest scholarly forum for Balkan studies, was held in Bucharest (Romania) from September 2 to September 6, 2019. It was attended by over 400 people from 25 countries.

The Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' – BAS (IBSCT–BAS) was presented with the most participants from Bulgaria. They delivered 12 papers about the history, culture and education in the Balkans from Ancient times to the present day. Scholars from other institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities and regional history museums also attended the forum and delivered papers.

During the congress, Prof. Alexandre Kostov, Dr. habil., corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, was re-elected president of the International Association of Southeastern European Studies (Association Internationale d'Etudes du Sud-Est Europeen - AIESEE), and Prof. Roumiana Preshlenova, PhD became a member of the International Committee.

20190619 105102On 19th and 20th June 2019, a Bulgarian-Romanian scientific conference "Southeast Europe through centuries: social history, language and cultural contacts" was held at the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology (IBSCT). The scientific forum dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was organized in cooperation with the Institute for South East European Studies and the Nicolae Iorga Institute of History at the Romanian Academy

Prof. Joanna Spassova-Dikova, PhD, Scientific Secretary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the field of Cultural-Historical Heritage and National Identity, Prof. Roumiana Preshlenova, PhD, Director of the IBCT, and His Excellency Ion Gâlea, Ambassador of Romania to Bulgaria gave welcoming speeches and greeting addresses to the participants in which they pointed out the role of Bulgarian-Romanian scientific cooperation. Its traditions date back to 1869, when the Bulgarian Literary Society, whose successor was the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, was founded in Braila.

dobraOn 17th and 18th of June 2019, an International Conference "Bulgarian-Croatian scientific, cultural and spiritual relations" was held, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). It was organized by the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology as a result of the bilateral cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (CASC). Bulgarian and 14 Croatian scholars participated in the conference. They were representatives from the partner organizations as well as from other scientific institutions in Bulgaria and Croatia.

The event started with a welcoming speech read by Prof. Yoanna Spassova on behalf of the President of the BAS Acad. Julian Revalski. Mrs. Ljerka Alajbeg, Ambassador of Croatia to Bulgaria, also welcomed the participants and attentively followed the conference. During the first plenary session, which took place in the "Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, there was a presentation of the corpus with articles and studies "The Bulgarians and Zagreb" as a result of the previous conference held in Zagreb in 2017. The following meetings took place in the "Acad. Ivan Evstratiev Geshov" Hall at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and at the Institute of Balkan Studies. The reports covered topics from different historical eras and periods from the Middle Ages to nowadays. The intense relationship between the two brotherly nations led to revealing new and unknown facts.

Kostov HistSc picProf. Alexandre Kostov, Dr. habil., corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, from the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was elected a correspondent member of the International Academy of the History of Science. The prestigious organization, headquartered in Paris, was founded in 1928 and unites outstanding scholars from around the world.

Prof. Alexandre Kostov, Dr. habil., corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, is the second Bulgarian to be a member of the International Academy of the History of Science. His election comes as a recognition of his efforts and achievements in studies of the history of science in Bulgaria and the Balkans.

P1550219On 14 June 2019 in the city of Montana it was organized Day of Bulgarian Science dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The forum was organized by: Regional Academic Center - Montana, Montana Municipality and the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology (IBSCT) - Branch Montana.

During the day of Bulgarian science a scientific meeting "Bulgarian Northwest in Historical Studies" was held. It was organized by the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences - Branch Montana. The event started with greetings of the Mayor of Montana Zlatko Zhivkov, Assoc. Prof. Borislav Velikov, PhD, Chairman of the 39th National Assembly, Prof. Alexandre Kostov, Dr. habil., corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Director of the IBCT - Branch Montana.

Two papers were delivered during the forum. Acad. Jachko Ivanov presented "Montana and the Northwest at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences", and Prof. Alexandre Kostov, Dr. habil., corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences spoke about  "The Education of Bulgarian Engineers and Architects from Montana District before the Second World War".
