We are pleased to invite you to presentation of the seventh issue of the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology "Alexander Fol''s periodical BALKANI 7/2018. The presentation of the edition entitled 'Regional and European in the Balkans: ideas, projects, implementations (19th-20th centuries)' will take place on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 17h00 at the conference room of the IBSCT - BAS, located on Moskovska Street No. 45, Sofia.
We have the pleasure to invite you to the lecture of the Assoc. Prof. Kamen Dimitrov, PhD ‘The Northwestern Bulgarian lands between the Rivers Timok and Yantra in Late Antiquity’ which will take place on December 11, 2018 at the Institute of Balkan Studies, located on Moskovska Street No. 45. The Lecture is part of the Initiative ‘Each Second Tuesday’ and project ‘Creation of the Late Antique World on the Balkans’.
The area under discussion was incorporated as a border area of the Late Roman Empire (after 395 – East Roman Empire) whose development was in general following a line of centralisation. Imperial foreign policy was focused mainly on protection of borders from external invasions through maintenance of the defensive fort infrastructure at Lower Danube limes and the military units that were stationed there. These forts were also centers and infrastructure for suppliers and trade with barbarians including, mostly through the Danube settlements.
On the website of the 'Ivo Pilar' Institute of Social Studies, Zagreb (Croatia), was published information about the Interdisciplinary conference 'Culture of travelling in the European Southeast', organized by the IBSCT - BAS. The event was held in the period 15-16 November 2018 at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IEFSEM - BAS).
On November 20, 2018 presentation of the new book in Bulgarian language of Assoc. Prof. Mariyana Stamova, PhD, ‘Albanians in Socialist Republic of Macedonia during the Last Decade of Tito’s Yugoslavia (1981-1991)’ took place at the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology. The Albanian translation of the book by Dr. Anton Panchev “Shqiptarëtnë Republikën Socialiste të Maqedonisë gjatë dekadëssë fundit të Jugosllavisë së Titos (1981–1991)“ was also presented during the event.
The 'Heritage.BG' consortium announces a procedure for selection of associated partners for the development of a project under the OP 'Science and Education for Smart Growth' (2014-2020).
The project is under procedure BG05M2OP001-1.001 "Building and Development of Centers of Excellence", Priority Axis 1 'Research and Technological Development', Specific Objective 1 'Building and Development of Centers of Excellence', Component 4 'New Technologies in Creative and Recreational Industries'.
On October 11, 2018 the Assembly of academicians elected the Director of the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology - Prof. Alexandre Kostov, Dr. habil. corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). His scientific contributions relate to the economic history of the Balkans in the 19th century and till the First World War, in particular on the peculiarities of modernization and Europeanization of the region.
On October 10, 2010 the presentation of the collective monograph 'The Refugee Crisis and the Balkans (2015-2016)' (compiled by Alexandre Kostov, Irina Ognyanova, Biser Banchev, Paradigma Publishing House, 2018, 362 p. took palce at the Information Center of the Ministry of Defense. The publication is of the implementation of the project 'Contemporary Balkans and challenges Bulgaria', funded by the Scientific Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science and implemented by IBSCT - BAS.
The monograph is a historical and political analysis of the migration crisis, which has raised important issues for the future of the EU. Two thematic cores formed the publication.

The presentation will take place on October 10, 2018 at 17h30 at the Information Center of the Ministry of Defense, located on Georgi S. Rakovski Street No. 106 (at the corner with Gurko Street)
On October 2, 2018 at 15h00 at the Centre of Thracology "Prof. Alexander Fol" at the IBSCT - BAS, located on Moskovska Street No. 13, there will be presentation of the new twenty-third edition of the series Thracia: Thracia XXIII, THRACO-ANATOLICA, dedicated to the 65 anniversary of Prof. Kalin Porozhanov, Dr. habil. The publication contains 16 articles of colleagues, students, postgraduates and adherents of the jubilee whose research activities outlines his broad scientific scope.

DR. HABIL. ALEXANDER FOL'S BIRTH. The event will take place on October 9, 2018 at 16h00 in the corridor space on the fourth floor of the First Corps in NBU, located on Montevideo Street No. 21.

7th National Balkan Studies Meeting. Weekdays and Holidays on the Balkans will be held on 23rd and 24th of November 2018. The event is organised by the IBSCT - BAS and the National Committee on Balkan Studies, and will take place at the Institute of Balkan Studies.
International conference 'WESTERN BALKANS - TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE, TELECOMMUNICATIONS, EUROPEAN INTEGRATION' will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 9h00. The conference is organised by the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences under the project 'Modern Balkans and the challenges facing Bulgaria' of the Scientific Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science.
The conference will take place in Sofia, Scholar's House - BAS, located on Shipchenski prohod Boulevard No. 50.
