The 12th International Balkan Congress, the highest scholarly forum for Balkan studies, was held in Bucharest (Romania) from September 2 to September 6, 2019. It was attended by over 400 people from 25 countries.
The Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' – BAS (IBSCT–BAS) was presented with the most participants from Bulgaria. They delivered 12 papers about the history, culture and education in the Balkans from Ancient times to the present day. Scholars from other institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities and regional history museums also attended the forum and delivered papers.
During the congress, Prof. Alexandre Kostov, Dr. habil., corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, was re-elected president of the International Association of Southeastern European Studies (Association Internationale d'Etudes du Sud-Est Europeen - AIESEE), and Prof. Roumiana Preshlenova, PhD became a member of the International Committee.
