On November 11, 2019 in Slaveikov Hall at the French Institute in Bulgaria it was organized a Round table "Romani people in the Ottoman Balkans and in contemporary Bulgaria. French-Bulgarian cooperation in the field of history and sociolinguistics". Organizer of this scholarly event was the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Embassy of France in Bulgaria and the French Institute in Bulgaria.
On November 13, 2019 (Wednesday) at the Institute of Balkan Studies located on Moskovska Street No. 45 Nikolay Sharankov will present a lecture 'Conflicts and Interactions between Paganism and Christianity in the 4th century'. The event is organized under the project LABedia: Late Antique Balkans Encyclopedia and it is open to the public.

On the Day of the National Revival Leaders the IBSCT–BAS organized second edition of the Balkan Book Fair. We gave away old printed editions and sold new editions at reduced price.
Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, the event was met with great interest and wishes for a recent new edition, including outside the capital.
The next Balkan Book Fair is scheduled for February 14, 2020.

During the official opening of the event on October 2, 2019 in 'Prof. Marin Drinov' Grand Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Vasil Nikolov, Dr. habil., corresponding member of the BAS, Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Coordinator of the National Scholarly Program “Cultural historical heritage, national memory and social development” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Todor Chobanov, Deputy Mayor of Sofia greeted the participants and guests of the conference. Prof. Dr. Joanna Spassova-Dikova, Scientific secretary 'Cultural-Historical Heritage and National Identity', greeted the attendees on behalf of the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, acad. Julian Revalski.

How to build an innovation lab in a library, museum, archive or gallery?
Mass digitization in libraries, museums, archives and galleries in recent decades has two main goals - access to and preservation of cultural heritage. The accumulation of large digital collections makes necessary the presentation of these collections as data to enable the use of intelligent analysis tools. In response to the emergence of this need, a number of libraries, museums and archives have set up specialized physical or virtual glam labs. This practice is still very new globally. In order to outline the experience gained over the past few years a group of specialist from various institutions such as the Library of Congress, the British Library, The National Library of Denmark, the Royal Library of the Netherlands, the Austrian National Library, etc. devoted one week at the end of September 2019 to summarize their experience as a collective book (Mahey et al., 2019).
The Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology 'Prof. Alexander Fol' at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with Sofia Municipality is organizing an exhibition 'The City in the Balkans: Spaces, Faces, Memory in Postcards', which will be held at the Outdoor Gallery in the Crystal Garden from 21st of October to 10 November 2019.
The official opening of the event is on October 21 (Monday) at 17h00 at the Outdoor Gallery in the Crystal Garden. The exhibition is organized under the National Scholarly Program 'Cultural historical heritage, national memory and social development', funded by the Ministry of Education and Science.
The exhibition is part of the celebrations marking two major anniversaries of fundamental importance for the Bulgarian statehood and culture - the 140th anniversary of the proclamation of Sofia as the capital of Bulgaria and the 150th anniversary of the founding of BAS.
